Application Process

The process begins with submitting an Expression of Interest (EOI) to the Department of Home Affairs. 

Applicants are then assessed under priority categories: 

Priority 1

Priority 2 
Government-nominated applicants with a strong business or economic case 

Priority 3 
Exceptional talent in Tier 1 sectors: 

  • Critical Technologies  
  • Health  
  • Renewable and Low-Emission Technologies  

Priority 4
Exceptional talent in Tier 2 sectors: 

  • Agri-Food and AgTech  
  • Defence and Space  
  • Education  
  • Financial Services and FinTech  
  • Infrastructure and Transport  
  • Resources  

Applicants outside these sectors may still qualify with strong government support. 

Pathway to Citizenship

Permanent residents may qualify for citizenship by: 

  • Completing 4 years of lawful residency  
  • Spending at least 12 months as a permanent resident  

Additional requirements include: 

  • Passing a citizenship test  
  • Attending an official appointment  
  • Taking the citizenship pledge
