Residency by Investment Overview

The Spain Residency by Investment Program was officially concluded on 4 April 2025 and is no longer accepting new applications. 

Spain remains a highly attractive destination for global investors, and alternative residency pathways are available for individuals seeking access to the European Union and the Schengen Area. 

Investment Options (Historical)

Applicants qualified through one of the following: 

Real Estate Investment 

  • Minimum property purchase of 500,000 EUR  

 

Financial Investment 

  • 1,000,000 EUR in investment funds, bank deposits, or company shares  
  • 2,000,000 EUR in Spanish government bonds

Application Process (Historical)

The process followed two main stages: 

  1. Visa Application  
  2. Submission in the applicant’s home country  
  3. Granted entry and residency for 1 year  
  4. Residency Permit Application  
  5. Submitted in Spain  
  6. Initial permit valid for 3 years, renewable for 5 years  

There was no strict minimum stay requirement, provided the investment was maintained. 

 

Pathway to Citizenship

Applicants could apply for Spanish citizenship after: 

  • 10 years of legal residency  
  • 2 years for eligible nationalities (Latin America, Portugal, etc.)  

Important Note: 
Spain generally restricts dual citizenship, except for specific countries.
